Calling for Volunteers aged 17 - 25!

Are you looking for a hands-on and interesting way to do some good for our pioneer generation? If you are, look no further! We warmly welcome you to join the 50cube Volunteer Team in a series of exciting and varied activities to contribute to the 50km hike happening on 19 November 2016.

As part of the 50cube Volunteer Team, you can choose to be engaged in a series of activities that we will be holding leading up to, and during the hike. Regardless your interests and skillsets, we have something for you!

  • If you enjoy interacting with the elderly, we will be having monthly visits to Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home (http://www.leeahmooioldagehome.sg/) and outings with beneficiaries and patients of Alzheimer's Disease Association (http://alz.org.sg/), both of which are the beneficiaries the funds raised will be going to.
  • If you enjoy publicity work, there will be interviews with celebrities to promote our cause, and you can be part of the team that crafts and executes the interview.
  • If you prefer hands-on, behind the scenes work, we will greatly appreciate your extra pair of hands in helping out with preparing logistics such as race-packs and other equipment that we will need for the hike.
  • If you enjoy exercise and training, there will also be training sessions where we lead our hikers in a series of exercises to prepare them physically for the hike as well as recees up to 20km through the route together with the hikers.
  • Lastly, on the event day itself, we will be requiring volunteers to support us by cheering the hikers on, handing out refreshments along the route as well as playing the role of heritage markers where you will share with passing hikers the history of these places that they have hiked through.

More details regarding each of these activities will be advised closer to the date.

Please note that there is NO training on 8 Aug 2016. Once again, volunteers will be informed formally through e-mails when there are volunteer activities happening.

*Skills listed below are not required for every single activity, as the nature of each activity varies.

We look forward to working with you!

50cube 2016: Their Stories, Our Future

When we look at the Singapore we live in today, all this would not have been possible without the hard work of our pioneers. Their stories have paved the way for the future of our country.

Lee Ah Mooi OId Age Home is one of the two beneficiaries for 50cube. It takes care of 110 sandwiched-class elderly who have no caregiver(s) to look after them at home.

As a Volunteer Befriender, you will have the chance to interact with our beneficiaries at Lee Ah Mooi OId Age Home and find out about these interesting stories that have brought us to where we are now. During the visit, you will be able to join in various activities with the seniors where were planned by our fellow youth volunteer leaders. These activities could include Karaoke singing, origami making, and many other activities that will allow you to interact with the seniors. If you have any ideas about suitable activities we could do with the seniors, feel free to contact us and provide us with suggestions.

Sign up with us today to spend a meaningful afternoon with the pioneers at Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home! :)

Walk for a Cause with ADA for World Mental Health Day

On 8 October, Alzheimer’s Disease Association (ADA), along with many other Volunteer Welfare Organisations serving beneficiaries with mental conditions, is bringing to you ‘Walk with Us, Stamp out Stigma'

50cube, in support of ADA, recognises that dementia is a condition that affects a large number of seniors and we are rallying youth volunteers to join us in this walk along Orchard Road to encourage passers-by to rethink about their perceptions and ideas of mental illness and the seniors who suffer from it.

As a Volunteer Ambassador at this walk, you will take a walk down Orchard Road and encourage passers-by to join you in this walk. You will share with them about how mental health affects the seniors and  encourage them to join us at the event taking place at *SCAPE. Road marshals and signages will be lined along the route that Volunteer Ambassadors will take down Orchard Road. All volunteers will also be given a t-shirt from ADA to be worn on the day as well.

*Knowledge about mental health and elderly are not required, as volunteers will be briefed and informed accordingly before the event on the same day. In addition, there will be booths with activities held at *SCAPE and all volunteers are encouraged to join us at the event after the walk!

Do join us if you believe in creating a more inclusive and understanding society for individuals with mental health conditions as well as our seniors! Hope to see you there! :)
