Volunteer Befriender

Interested in visiting a hospice and engaging with end-of-life patients? Join us as a Volunteer Befriender!

As a Volunteer Befriender, you will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of what palliative care is about, and enhance the life of patients at the hospice in many ways! 

Roles of a Volunteer Befriender (VB):

  1. Shadow nurses and assist in their daily operations.

  2. Engage the patients in games and activities.

  3. Ensure the patients’ safety during the entire programme duration.

No prior experience/training in palliative care is required as training will be provided. The commitment to this regular volunteering programme is at least two Saturdays a month, for a period of 3 months from late Feb to mid May 2019.

All volunteers are required to attend a mandatory training on 23 February 2019, Saturday, 8.30am to 4.30pm and at least 5 out of 6 volunteering sessions on Saturday mornings, from 11.30am - 1.30pm.

Who We Are

Youth Corps Singapore is a national institution that supports young Singaporeans who are keen to serve the community. As the champion for youth volunteerism, it harnesses the energy and passion of youths to ignite positive change in the society through community service.

Bringing together Singapore Citizens and PRs aged 16 to 35, Youth Corps Singapore provides a platform for youths to learn new skills and meet like-minded peers, who aspire to go forth and create a better Singapore and a better world for all.

What We Offer

As a Member of Youth Corps Singapore, you can make friends with people like yourself at various platforms. Whether it’s health, education, or environmental causes, we offer a diverse range of volunteering opportunities and events for our Members, from community service events to regular volunteering.

Members can also join our Leaders Programme as Aspirants. We provide relevant trainings where you can take your skills and knowledge of service-learning to the next level, and apply them to a project to impact the community. You will also forge greater bonds with fellow Aspirants, and enjoy exclusive perks. When you are conferred as a Leader, you get to continue to develop yourself, initiate community projects and rally your friends to join you on a good cause.

The Red Box

Set in the heart of Orchard Road, The Red Box is a place for youths to gather, exchange ideas and take action to make Singapore a better home for all. Its name draws inspiration from the red box of Singapore’s Founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. It represents the late Mr Lee’s love and conviction towards creating a better Singapore.

The Red Box is open to all Youth Corps Members to ignite positive change in our community. Look out for various enrichment and engagement sessions at The Red Box.
