Volunteer Befrienders

As a Volunteer Befriender, you will have the opportunity to understand more about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), though interaction with friends from Hope Of The Journey, an independent parent/family support group for ASD. You will partner children or teenagers with ASD to work together, ideally on a 1-to-1 pairing to participate in a photography walk with smartphone cameras and picnic outing at Pasir Ris Park.

Commitment required for this event will be on the event day, 18th October 2017 (Deepavali Public Holiday), Wednesday, from 10:00AM to 1:30PM.

Prior experience is preferred but not required, just an open heart and mind.

A compulsory volunteer briefing will be conducted on 14th October 2017, Saturday, 9:30AM – 12:00PM, at The Red Box.

Volunteer Guide (Children/youth with autism and siblings)

As a Volunteer Guide, you will have the opportunity to interact with both children/youths with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their siblings. You will be sharing with the clients more about the environment in Gardens By The Bay like a tour guide, and at the same time carry out engaging and interactive activities that will encourage bonding between them. Through this experience, you will learn and  discover more about ASD and the social issues the Special Needs community face.

Volunteer Guides will be attached to a pair of children/youths with autism and their siblings, who will be joining them in the activities. Activities include photography hunt and interactive games that will also deepen their awareness of the environments in Gardens By The Bay.

 

Volunteer Guides will be required to commit to:

  • Compulsory volunteer briefing on 9 June from 10am to 12pm; and
  • Full duration of the event on 13 June 2018, from 9:00AM to 12:00PM.

Come with an open heart and mind, as well as the  spontaneity to take on new challenges.

Please note the following:

·      Volunteer Guides will only attend to children/youth, while Volunteer Facilitators will attend to caregivers/parents only. Hence, one volunteer may not take on dual roles.

Volunteer Facilitator (Parent Support)

As a Volunteer Facilitator, you will have the opportunity to interact with caregivers of children/youth with autism. For this outing, parents are encouraged to step away from their children so that they are able to enjoy and have fun. Super Explora hopes to engage volunteer facilitator to facilitate emotional peer support for the caregivers while they are away from their children/ youths with autism

Aside from facilitating conversations and promoting socio-emotional support for the parents, you will get to share more about the environment in Gardens By The Bay like a tour guide. Through this experience, you will also learn and discover more about ASD and the social issues the special needs community face.

You will be attached to about 2 – 3 caregivers, and will be facilitating conversations between them. The main aim of this activity is to provide socio-emotional support for the caregivers, as well as peer support.

 

Volunteer Guides will be required to commit to:

  • Compulsory volunteer briefing on 9 June from 10am to 12pm; and
  • Full duration of the event on 13 June 2018, from 9:00AM to 12:00PM.

 

Facilitation skills and understanding in the special needs community is preferred but not required.

Volunteer Facilitators must be willing to converse with the caregivers. Come with an open heart and mind, as well as the spontaneity to take on new challenges.

Who We Are

Youth Corps Singapore is a national institution that supports young Singaporeans who are keen to serve the community. As the champion for youth volunteerism, it harnesses the energy and passion of youths to ignite positive change in the society through community service.

Bringing together Singapore Citizens and PRs aged 16 to 35, Youth Corps Singapore provides a platform for youths to learn new skills and meet like-minded peers, who aspire to go forth and create a better Singapore and a better world for all.

What We Offer

As a Member of Youth Corps Singapore, you can make friends with people like yourself at various platforms. Whether it’s health, education, or environmental causes, we offer a diverse range of volunteering opportunities and events for our Members, from community service events to regular volunteering.

Members can also join our Leaders Programme as Aspirants. We provide relevant trainings where you can take your skills and knowledge of service-learning to the next level, and apply them to a project to impact the community. You will also forge greater bonds with fellow Aspirants, and enjoy exclusive perks. The Red Box

Set in the heart of Orchard Road, The Red Box is a place for youths to gather, exchange ideas and take action to make Singapore a better home for all. Its name draws inspiration from the red box of Singapore’s Founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. It represents the late Mr Lee’s love and conviction towards creating a better Singapore.

The Red Box is open to all Youth Corps Members to ignite positive change in our community. Look out for various enrichment and engagement sessions at The Red Box.
