Laos Sustainable Electricity (Light Up Laos!)

The team project objective was to provide and supply a sustainable and reliable source of electricity to light up some areas of the Ban Lad Khammune Village with the use of solar panels. Main focus was to bring light supply to the local clinics to easier allow the staff to administer the patients as compared to before. With this electricity, the team hopes there will be an improvement in the standard of living among the villagers in Ban Lad Khammune Village in time to come.

World Change Starts with Education

The team works along side with YMCA of Singapore to assist help to Chun Nat High School, located in Kampong Cham at Cambodia. The project aims to improve computer literacy among students and teachers from the school. Having the aim in mind, the team set up a new computer lab with computer facilities for the school. Simple software skills like Microsoft Words, Powerpoint, Excel, were taught to give the teacher an alternative way to explore and use as teaching resources. With the computer skills, students can also assist the IT teacher as well as teach their peers the computer skills.

Project Kha Naung Htoo

Team Zest created a two-pronged approach to address the most pressing needs of Kha Naung Htoo Village. Aimed to improve the social mobility of the villagers, the team developed a Youth Development Programme, focusing on basic and conversational English. The next approach was an infrastructural improvement to pave a 600m gravel path to replace an existing sandbag lined path. This mutually reinforcing approach would allow the village to maximise its potential, enable new and improved developments, and increase social mobility.

8eyond

Cambodia: The project built on the work of Cohort 1 Team Infin8te, which set up a functional computer lab for Chun Nat High School; and co-funded the wifi subscription with the school for one year, which ended in June 2016. Cohort 3 Team 8eyond aimed to improve the IT capabilities of students from Chun Nat High School by teaching them to extract information from the internet, as well as broaden their perspectives on several issues ranging from their local University education prospects to worldly issues. This is to ensure that they are equipped with basic IT skills and have adequate knowledge about their job opportunities, so that they are better prepared for their University education. On top of this, Team 8eyond kickstarted an IT club within the school to ensure sustainability of the IT curriculum.
