St. Andrew's Nursing Home

Our Projects

YOLDEN (Sports)

YOLDEN is a regular befriending programme which aims to cater to the physical, intellectual and social emotional wellness of seniors in nursing homes. “YO” comes from the word “YOuths” and “OLDEN” comes from the word “gOLDEN” which represents seniors.

YOLDEN (Sports) aims to foster intergenerational bonds among youth volunteers and senior residents from St. Andrew’s Nursing Home (Henderson) through adapted team sports activities such as adapted badminton, vollyeball, darts and telematches. This programme is jointly curated by Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), Sport Singapore and Youth Corps Singapore.

Through regular participation and physical activity, it may improve seniors’ overall physical and mental health. Join us to spend your Saturday afternoons meaningfully!

This project is a Youth Corps Singapore regular community service programme.

Details

Dementia Correct (Orientation and Training)
Our compulsory training session will equip youth with vital knowledge regarding dementia as an illness, the difficulties faced by those suffering from dementia, and what a dementia-friendly community entails. We have partnered with St. Andrew’s Nursing Home (SANH) to curate activities for youth to apply their knowledge to interact with the beneficiaries. The interactive information session co-led by youth and nurses from SANH aims to debunk common myths surrounding dementia and allow for youth to develop the skill sets beneficial to interacting with persons with dementia. The topics covered include effective communication and activity curation.

Dementia Connect (Event day)
Our community service event focuses on allowing meaningful interaction between youth and persons of dementia via games and activities. We believe that the best way to engage our beneficiaries in a short duration of time would be through shared experiences - allowing patients with dementia to have fun while enabling youth to gain a deeper understanding of this particular community. Youth will take charge of unique games that involve different sensory stimulations.
